For kids: your first job 🎒
Think of Wobbl like a real job, except your boss is someone who loves you. Here is how it goes.
1. Check your list
Your chores show up on your Today page. Each one tells you exactly what done looks like, step by step.
2. Do it, then prove it
Tick off each step and snap a photo. That is your proof of work, the same way grown-ups show their boss what they finished.
3. Get reviewed
A parent looks at your photo and checklist. If it is done well, you get paid. If not, you get a note and a chance to fix it. That is not a punishment, it is how everyone gets better.
4. Watch your paycheck grow
Every approved chore adds money to your balance. Your Money page is like a bank statement: you can see every dollar in and out, and why.
5. Save, spend, give
Your pay splits into three jars. Save is for later, Spend is for now, Give is for helping someone. You can set a goal, like new headphones, and watch the bar fill up.
6. Turn in your timesheet
At the end of each pay period you write a few sentences about what went well and what was hard. Your parent reads it and writes back. Real jobs do this too.
7. Earn a raise
Do a chore well and on time for a while and your pay for it can go up. Keep your streak going, and go for badges along the way.
8. Side jobs count
Helped a neighbor? Tell a parent and it goes on your ledger like any other pay. Finding work on your own is called initiative, and it is a superpower.
For parents: how the money and approvals work 🧭
The goal is to make chores feel like employment: clear standards, proof, review, payday, feedback, and progression. Here is the machinery.
Payment methods
- Flat price pays every time the chore is approved.
- Bundle payout pays only when every chore in the bundle due that day is approved. Bundles can carry a bonus on top.
- Timed payout pays when the period closes if every timed chore due in the period was approved. Use it for “do everything this week and earn the bonus.”
- Expected, no pay counts toward streaks and the timesheet but earns nothing. Good for baseline responsibilities like homework.
Approvals
Submissions land in your queue with the photo, the checklist, and your reference photo side by side. Approve, approve with partial credit, or send it back with a reason. Late submissions can earn a reduced rate you set in Family settings. Trust mode auto-approves a chore after 24 hours unless you object, which is handy for older kids.
The ledger
Every balance is computed from transactions, never edited directly. Bonuses, outside jobs, penalties, withdrawals, allowance, interest, and goal moves are all lines a kid can read. Penalties require a reason so the consequence is always explained.
Jars and goals
Pay splits into Save, Spend, and Give using the family default or a kid's own split within the limits you set. Goals hold money aside from the spendable balance. Optional parent matching and interest on the Save jar make saving feel real.
Timesheets and pay stubs
At the end of each pay period the kid submits a timesheet with reflections. When you approve it, the period locks: gross, deductions, and net are frozen into a pay stub, and later corrections show up as new adjustments, just like payroll.
Raises and reviews
Every few periods the app reminds you to review rates. Changes are recorded with a note so kids can see how consistent work turns into higher pay.
Cover and rotation
Mark a kid as away and their chores pause. Add another kid to a chore for a date range so a sibling can cover it, optionally at a different rate. Rotating chores alternate between kids automatically.
Incentives
Big goals that are not chores, like “All A's and B's this quarter for $150.” Assign to one or more kids with a deadline. The kid marks it achieved with proof, you approve, and it pays as an incentive line.
Privacy
Kids only see their own chores, money, and feedback. A chore shared with more than one kid shows the other assignees on that chore only. Photos are stored privately and served only to your family.
